K. B. Basseches is a nationally exhibiting artist and published author/illustrator. Currently she is the director of Center City Arts, a soon-to-open gallery and art education space in downtown Richmond, VA.
Prior to her work at Center City Arts, Basseches was an assistant professor in the Department of Art Education, School of the Arts, at Virginia Commonwealth University. Basseches had served as an assistant professor of art at Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, WV, where, in addition to her instructional duties, she also helped
to run the Frank Creative Art Center Gallery as Gallery Director. Additionally, Basseches has been an instructor at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she earned a doctorate in art education.
In addition to a Ph. D., Basseches has also obtained an M. Ed. in art education from George Washington University, an MFA in painting from the University of Pennsylvania and an undergraduate double major in studio art and developmental psychology from Smith College.
Basseches has been a practicing artist and photographer for many years. She served as a Staff Photographer at the Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.
In addition to her work as an artist, Basseches is sought after to jury exhibitions for professional, post-secondary and school age student venues. She is also available to speak to groups about her own work, aesthetics in the visual arts and, art education practices.
